Mashrafe signs off T20I career with victory
Dhaka : After the Test and ODI series, Bangladesh now shared the two-match T20I series with Sri Lanka beating the hosts by 45 runs in the 2nd and last game at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday.
With this, the Tigers bade a fitting farewell to their skipper Mashrafe bin Moratza in the shortest format of cricket. The Tigers got the win after eight successive losses in this format since March 2016.
This is also for the first time that Bangladesh ended an away tour drawing series in all the three formats of cricket.
Earlier, the Tigers shared both the Test and the rain-hit ODI series playing 1-1 draws against Sri Lanka.
The ‘Narail Express’ captained the Tigers for 10 victories in his 28 T20I assignments.
This is Bangladesh’s 2nd win against Sri Lanka in the shortest format of cricket which came in their 7th meeting in away game. In the pervious six meetings since September 2007, Bangladesh registered the only victory against Sri Lanka at home during Twenty20 format Asia Cup 2016.
Replying to Bangladesh’s 176 runs, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 131 runs in 18 overs.
Chamara Kapugedera tops-scored 50 off 35 balls, including five boundaries and one over boundary, for his maiden half century before being caught by Mehedi Hasan Miraz off Mustafizur Rahman at 123/8 in 16.2 overs.
Thisara Perera (27 off 23b; 3×4), skipper Upul Tharanga (23 off 21b; 3×4) and
Seekkuge Prasanna(11) were the other double figure scorers for the side.
Mustafizur Rahman captured four wickets for economic 24 runs in three overs while Mahmudullah Riyad, skipper Mashrafe Mortaza and Mohammad Saifuddin took one wicket each.
Shakib Al Hasan top-scored 38 runs with bat and captured three wickets for 24 runs in four overs to become the man of the match
He also made the first breakthrough for Bangladesh dismissing Lankan opener Kusal Perera at 4/1 in the innings very 2nd ball.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 176 against Sri Lanka in the 2nd and last game of the two-match series at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday.
Batting first after winning the toss, the Tigers played 20 overs for their collection for nine wickets where opener Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar set the platform of a big score contributing 71 runs in 6.3 overs in the opening pair which ended with Soumya’s departure.
Soumya was caught and bowled by Asela Gunaratne scoring 34 off 17 balls, including four boundaries and two over boundaries.
Kayes was run out scoring 36 off 25 balls, including four boundaries and one six, failing to stay with Sabbir Rahman in the 2nd wicket.
After Kayes’ departure at 78/2 in 7.5 overs, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Sabbir played for 46 in 5.2 overs to carry the team collection to 124/3 in 13.1 overs before Sabbir was bowled out by Vikum Sanjaya.
No other pair could stay longer for the visitors after Sabbir.
Number one all-rounder in all the formats of cricket Shakib top-scored 38 off 31 balls, including four boundaries, before being bowled out by Vikum Sanjaya at 139/4 in 16 overs.
Lankan pace bowler Lasith Malinga captured three batsmen — Mushfiqur Rahim, skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mehedi Hasan Miraz — for a hat-trick completed in the 18th over when Bangladesh collected 169/8 in 18.5 overs.
Mohammad Saifuddin and Mahmudullah Riyad played the innings last seven balls for the final collection.
Sabbir scored 19 runs while Mosaddek (17) and Mushfiqur Rahim (15) were the other double figure scorers for the side.
Malinga captured three for 34 runs in four overs while Asela Gunaratne, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara and Vikum Sanjaya took one wicket each for 15, 24, 30 and 32 runs respectively.
