Dhaka : They withdrew the strike on Monday after the health minister assured them of cancelling the suspension order of four interns at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) in Bogra

Interns at different hospitals have withdrawn their countrywide indefinite strike after meeting Health Minister Mohammed Nasim.

They called off the strike on Monday, after Nasim assured representatives of intern doctors of cancelling the suspension order of four interns at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) in Bogra.

“It is my responsibility to look into public interest,” Nasim told the media while stating the reason behind cancelling the suspension of the four interns.

The four are MA Al Mamun, Ashikuzzaman Ashik, Kutub Uddin and Nurjahan Binte Islam, who are also members of SZMC unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

The minister also asked the interns not repeat such incidents in future.

The interns had been observing the strike protesting the suspension since Saturday morning.

On February 19, the four accused intern doctors from SZMC in Bogra, allegedly beat up the relatives of a 65-year-old patient named Alauddin Sarker, after a female intern was asked by the patient’s son to turn off a fan.

On recommendation of the probe committee investigating the assaults, Health and Family Welfare Ministry suspended the internship of the four accused intern doctors for six months on March 2.
